“I took Hazel to an 8 year old party who’s parents seemed Elon Musk rich and the friends were doing their best to keep up. I was the lone wolf in that pack. It was the very end of the party and all the girls wanted the presents opened. They were massive! All brand new $80+ pressies. Hazel’s was the last one. She had made her own card and decided on a Barbie that wasn’t being used. It was wrapped as best it could (I could) and the other girls were asking why isn’t it in a box etc. Hazel didn’t seem to be fased by it but I felt every bit of embarrassment coming on. I explained the concept of @the.gift.rebellion and stood my ground as the sweat started to make its way to the surface. We never saw them again and we don’t know if the Barbie ever got played with but I’m super glad we didn’t waste money on something that was not at all necessary.”
